PASTOR'S NOTES

The “holidays” may be long past, but I don’t know of any month that has as many occasions for celebration as February: It’s Black History Month, Women’s Week (in the UCC), The Super Bowl, Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays (combined now into President’s Day), Valentine's Day (which is also the 100th anniversary of my home state of Arizona’s admission to statehood), Transfiguration Sunday, Ash Wednesday....and for us baseball fans, the arrival of Spring Training, if not Spring itself. In fact, I consider all these as invitations to turn our concerns toward something larger than dwelling on the fact that around here it’s still pretty much winter.

We’ll observe some of these in worship – especially Lincoln’s birthday, Transfiguration Sunday, and Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, with our second Service of Ashes held in the Chism Chapel. We are a community of faith, but much more. We are a members of a larger community that includes Reno and Northern Nevada, as well as a nation, a global family, indeed a whole web of life. And we practice honoring those relationships as we meet each week in the worship of God, and as we go forth to serve in the world God loves.

So Happy February! You won’t want to miss any of it

See you in Church- Rich
